Motivation Monday: The Art Of Discipline

Hello, good morning.

How was your weekend? Mine was great.I cannot say it was well spent but I survived. This is where I type Lol.

I just got thinking about this time last year, exactly one year ago.I am just awed at how life changes and how seasons happen.A lot can happen within a year.I do not want to go into the details but one thing that has not changed is that Diamond Platnumz had a hit record then and he has one now.I had a friend who was obsessed with ‘Salome’ ,and now, well I am jamming to ‘Hallelujah’ like my life depends on it.In between,he has released several other songs and I am starting to get the picture of the one thing that makes winners keep winning: Discipline.

As an entrepreneur, I am realizing just how much discipline is needed to hit the ground running. No one monitors the calls, meetings are totally up to me.Nobody says, ‘Stayse, get up.It’s time to send the email.’ Everything that happens is totally up to me.It even gets worse when I am lagging behind yet all around the world, people are winning. I was watching ‘valuetainment ‘ and Patrick was talking about how most people think that because they are their own boss, the work stops at any time they wish.Which is the number one reason why most entrepreneurs fail.

If you noticed, I told you I’ll be making a post every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and I have missed a few posts. They really make me feel guilty but each new week is a chance to be better. I am trying to live up to the promise.I read somewhere that the difference between successful people and the rest is that they are disciplined. They show up every single day no matter how they feel.

That also means keeping all promises and not making promises unless you can keep them. Don’t you find it annoying when someone says they will show up then they come late or just bail out with no explanation? I think discipline can also build integrity, when people know you keep your word, they are more likely to trust you.

I recall Strive Masiyiwa talking about an incident. He said that every time he was to pay salaries, he went to the bank at the same time for years and would always be at the office on time. One time he was late and since his employees knew that was unusual, they raised an alarm.Turns out he had been mugged and his discipline saved his life.Had he been someone who is irregular in his dealings, it may have taken long to find him.Who knows?

Discipline has something to do with routine and it is required in fitness as it is in life.Once you do the same thing at the same time every week, you create such a routine that it starts to feel unusual when that time comes and you are not active. It is the small routines that eventually create habit and that results in character which leads to reputation.

I really hope you get your head in the game and stay disciplined. Keep going!

See you on Wednesday.
